Missionary Moments: Elder Anthony Roberts

hey everyone,
Things are going well in Snyder and Heavenly Father is leading us to many souls. We taugh a llady named Dora yesterday while we were riding bikes and it was awesome. She's been catholic her whole life, but she really doesn't know much about god. We taught her simply and the spirit bore powerful witness. She said the closing prayer right after we taught her how to pray and when she finished, there were tears in her eyes. It warms the heart to see such humble and open souls. Cecelie is struggling. She has her baptismal interview on saturday but it seems as is all hell is combining against her. She finally moved out of her boyfriends house after he beat her, and she came to church last week, but she went awol last night and hasn't come home yet. Please say lots of prayers.Cecelie knows the gospel is true. everytime her life has taken a turn for the worst, the Elders have been there. She KNOWS this is the true church. It has been wonderful to see the joy of the atonement working in her life. Its like a light turning on :) The change comes when we repent. repentance changes a soul for the better, and I know it because I have seen it. Chrystal LeCount came out with us yesterday and she bore sweet testimony and it was awesome. Shaun has his priesthood interview next sunday and so does Daniel. I hope so much that these souls will continue in the faith they have found!!!!! We have also been teaching a lot more in spanish lately and that has been awesome. I actually shared my testimony and taught a couple principles to a lady named Maria on tuesday. It feels good. The gosple is true in every language :) Pray for Cecelie and Daunielle, that they will be able to be baptized and make these sacred covenants. transfers are on April 4th....so be prepared.

I love ALL of yall

Missionary Moments: Sister Heather Wardell

Hello to one and all! It's been a good but busy week as usual. Sister Chan and I have been in the Visitor Center alot. She is my fellow trainer for the VC. Anyways, we have been busy thinking of and applying ways to improve the VC. One thing that we are going to implement is a set of key indicator goals. We are excited but it's taken alot of our time from our area preparing all this. We even got to call down to the sisters at the Temple Square mission and got some ideas from them. It was fun to talk with them and see how things work there. Not going to lie tho, it's been a bit frustrating trying to keep both areas of my mission going but I love it and would have it no other way. We get the best of both worlds. We had an elder come in a little while ago who I am convinced is secretly a sister hater! Anyways he walks in shakes my hand and I said "elder, your hands are cold." He then replied "that's because I'm out doing real work." Oh I could have killed. He came in a few days later to drop something off and right before he left, he looked down at his planner, then at me, then at his planner and said "well I'm off to do some real missionary work" and I couldn't help myself and I said "elder, I'm sorry that the Lord called us to do twice the work in half the time." That shut him up and I haven't heard anything about that since!
Sister Price continues to amaze me. She's incredible and I feel so blessed to be her companion again another transfer. We taught the Restoration lesson to a couple, Kim and Kevin Dekold. They are amazing! But, they had a concern and Sister Price jumped right in and answered it perfectly. She's a champ!
Yesterday, we had an interesting experience in one of our Gospel Principles class. Kim Rawson, a less active that comes to church has some issues mentally. She likes to inform everyone of what the Bible "really means" and hates the Book of Mormon and is not afraid to let people know it. Troy Fuller is a former investigator that we promptly gave over to the elders after meeting with him for the first time and he kept calling us his beautiful sisters. He also has some very interesting points of view. Put them together and that's what we had in class. I was panicked! I felt this uneasiness and right after the lesson started, I felt calm and just had this feeling that everything would be alright. Sure enough, they both kept quiet for the most part and when they did comment, it actually almost was about what we had been talking about. An answer to prayer!! It was a tender mercy, that's for sure.
I had a really cool experience while making calls at the VC the other day. We ask people as they come in for people that they know who are not members of our faith anywhere around the world that they would like to send a free dvd about our Savior to. Then us sister missionaries call those that they referred and offer it to them. That gives them the opportunity to accept or reject and gives us an opportunity to offer them to learn more by having the missionaries come over. Well, I called this girl named Ashley. She is going to school in Logan. She was incredible. She said that she was raised catholic but since being in Logan she wants to learn about what we believe. She did say the first week she had to have her LDS friends translate what was being talked about because she had no idea what was going on. We have a lingo all of our own. Anyways, she readily accepted the Restoration video and told me to keep her number and give her a call when I get back to Logan. How awesome is that! I'm excited!
Well family, know that all is well. I'm so looking forward to General Conference! It really is the superbowl weekend for us missionaries. In between sessions we are having what I guess you could call a tail gate party with our zone, we will be grilling steaks! The members here are so good to us! Anyways, know that I love you all and I am still so happy as a missionary!!!

Missionary Moments: Elder Jared Wardell

We had an INCREDIBLE experience yesterday. I could have sworn I was reading it straight out of the Ensign. We spent most of the early afternoon contacting people in the street. It was Sunday so there weren't many people out. We had been searching for about 2 hours without any success. We approached a couple pushing a baby in a stroller. Without stopping, they said that they didn't have time to talk. Rushed for time, I spat out that we were sharing a message for the family and we would like to visit them some time. Without much sincerity they said, "Fine, maybe another day" and pointed to their house nearby. During all of this, there was a young man waiting patiently to talk to us. His name was Angel. After we finished talking to the couple, HE asked US, "Ya know, I've seen you guys a lot but have never talked with you. Could you explain to me what it is you do?" Any guesses what was going through my mind? I´ll tell you right now. DON´T SCREW UP!

We explained that what we talked about was very important to us and that we are here to share it with other people. We talked about the importance of prophets, Jesus Christ, and the restoration of His church. He was golden. He said that he had read about many different churches but has always felt as if something was missing. We showed him the Book of Mormon and explained how he could know the truth of our message by reading this book and praying about it. Unfortunately, his parents don´t like religion and we aren't about to pass by his house. However, we did give him a copy of the Book of Mormon and got his phone number to see how the reading assignment was coming along.

I love you all so much, and look forward to hearing from you.

Happy March Birthdays!

Miracles!

Hello family! This week has been full of miracles. It started off kinda slow but towards the ends we were truly blessed.

First and foremost, we had the opportunity of seeing Millie Blevins be re-baptized after many years away from the church. She is incredible. The service went so well. She was just glowing. She's kind of a bigger lady and the baptismail jumpsuit was tight around her middle. So she decided to put her sister's temple gown over top of it. She looked like an angel. Then when she was in the water, the dress was all billowey and she was just glowing. Her brother baptized and confirmed her. The spirit was strong and I just felt so incredibley blessed to have been a part of her journey.

On Sunday we had the opportunity of finding 3 new investigators and we set a baptismal date with one. Her name is Pam Taylor and she is just incredible. Her mom is less active and both her grandparents are very active. Growing up she went to seminary and all that but was never baptized. She is ready now and we are so excited for her. April 10 is the day that she will be baptized. HOW EXCITING!!

I also just heard from my first companion, Sis Utupo. She's amazing and I love her. But she was telling me about our convert Steve Butler. Steve got baptized March 14. Back in Nov, he moved to Autrailia and got married. Utupo was able to go. But she told me that on the 14, he is going through to receive his endowments and will be sealed to his wife March 20! He and Hilary will be a forever family! How incredible is that. He will be in the house of the Lord soon making those sacred covenants with Him. While I'm sad that I won't be there, Utupo will and she will tell me all about it. Plus, it doesn't matter if I'm there or not, the only important thing is that he goes! And he will!!

Well family, know that I love you! This gospel truly does bless families! I love you all and I love being a missionary!

More Missionary Moments!!

A Moment from Sister Wardell:

Hi family! Things are great here. We have had a pretty good week. On Thursday we had a sisters conference. It was so good. It felt so good to be around all the sisters in the mission. At the end of it all, we went to Rexburg and went through a session. It was so incredible. I have missed being in the temple. Afterwards, the temple matron took us on a little tour of it. They brought us to a sealing room, showed us the nursery where the kids wait to be sealed to their parents and then to the bridal room. I just felt such a peace while in that sacred holy building!
We talked in one of our wards the other day. I wish I would have kept a tally for the number of times I have talked on my mission. I have lost count! Afterwards we were waiting in the hall when one of our Bishop's door opened and he said, just who I was looking for. He had us come in and there were two people standing there who want to talk with missionaries! We have an appt with them this week.
We also got a very exciting voicemail from a lady who set up an appt with us but wasn't there for it. We have been trying to get a hold of her for awhile and we haven't had any luck. She called and left a message apologizing that she wasn't there. Her 3 month old son has been really sick and in Primary Children's. But she said he is doing really good now and that they will be home Tues. She wants to meet with us because she wants to be baptized! That's what she said on her message. We are really excited!!
Saturday is going to be INCREDIBLE!! We are having a mission conference and two general authorities will be talking to us! I'll let you know how it all turns out!
I love you all! Take care!

A Moment from Elder Jared Wardell

I have some good news and I have some bad news. The good news is that Javier quit smoking. He even came to church with his mother. We had the baptismal font filled and everything. (by the way, the baptismal font is swimming pool about 4 feet deep that we have to set up in the relief society room, and fill up with a hose.) The bad news is, he decided not to be baptized. He thanked us for helping him quit smoking and repent of a lot of things. He hoped we didn´t think that we "wasted our time" and he asked if it was OK if he continued to come to church. That was a big blow. Of course we hadn´t wasted our time and he was ALWAYS welcome to come to church. We are going to continue teaching him and try to discover what the problem is. He has a strong testimony, but something is getting in the way. I have faith that no obstacle is too dificult for him to overcome. I think quitting smoking proved that. Keep him in your prayers.
On a happier note, his sister, Veronica, met with the missionaries in Málaga. She was very excited. She told her mom, (who told us) that 3 missionaries came to her house. One from colombia, and two like us. (the colombian was obviously a member who accompanied them). She was liked visiting with them a lot. One of them reminds her of Elder Wardell (that´s me) because he´s always joking, and the other one reminds her of Harry Potter. Maybe she will be the good example for Javier to follow.
A lot is changing in the mission work of spain. The mission of Bilbao is being merged into the missions of Madrid and Barcelona. Our new mission president in July will be President Clegg (former mission president of Bilbao) and his wife. The Canarie Islands will no longer be apart of the mission of Málaga, but will be part of the mission of Madrid. Two other stakes will be added to our mission. I think a big change like this will do a lot of good for the mission work.
A lot of this is due to the decrease in the amount of missionaries serving world-wide. I sure hope that or you young-pups have every intention of serving a mission. Make the choice now and I promise you that you won´t regret it.

Love you all, please write.

Missionary Moments....

Here are moments from Elder Roberts and Sister Wardell:

Olah, Hermanos y hermanas!
Que' paso?
Things are good here in snyder. Transfers are not until a week after my birthday, so send stuff here. I am sticking around for as long as the Lord needs me here. On mOnday, we set a baptism and marriage date with the LaCount family, and it was awesome. Then on Tuesday, Sean said that he couldn't quit smoking and his date was called off ( that was quite a miserable time) Then on tuesday night, we set a date with a very open to the spirit 17 yr old kid named Edgar. Then yesterday we had 3 of our 5 member presents fall through, but we had a great lesson with the LaCounts and with Cheynna (another young kid, 14, we are teaching loads of younguns, probably because they are more receptive to the spirit :) And so it goes, up and down and up and down. Pray for sean. He is under the mindset that he is unable to quit smoking because his body won't let him, and that attitude totally lack faith and drives the spirit away. I know absolutely that he has the power inside of him to quit smoking. Our bodies do not control us!!!!! Everyday I understand more and more why we live the word of wisdom. God wants us to be free!!!!! The mission is doing great. February should be a solid month, we have 4 dates for february and we have a few investigators that don;t have dates yet, but probably will. God wants the his children in Snyder to receive the blessings of the priesthood, through which they will receaive the full and complete blessings of the atonement of jesus christ. His plan is wonderful. I know God loves His children in West Texas. I am picking up more spanish every day, The BOM helps a lot, with pronunciation and the Spirit helps me understand what I am reading, its a way cool feeling. I know that this is the work of Jesus Christ. I know that the blessings of the Gospel are REAL. Cool story, The LaCount family said a mealtime prayer for the first time in 3 years!! Look at what the gospel does!! There has been a significant increase in the amount of Light and Love in there home. Its something that you can feel. Pray that Crystal and Shaun will be able to get married on Feb. 14th. Every time in the past, something has always come up and I am sure this time won't be an exception. Our investigators all go through hell as they try to keep the commandments of God. But all who have overcome know the blessings of the Gospel. Think back on when you were sealed as an eternal companionship/family and what it took to get there. By the power of Christ, people can change. The power of the Atonement is real, I know it because I have seen it. I have felt His Spirit and the joy of the forgiveness that he makes possible.

Love, Elder Roberts

Hello family! Things are great here. It's been an eventful week. Thanks for the packages and cards and everything. It's weird to think that I am now 22! My birthday was really good. I got lots of cake and icecream from different families. I just love the people here in the West stake. It's been great staying here for so long so that I could have the opportunity to get to know them better. It was an eventful night to say the least but all is well! Because of it, we cover 4 wards instead of 5! It''s really good now!!! It also evens out the work load in the stake!
This past week has been pretty good. The love of my life, Brother Yule is doing wonderful. I love my 81 year old recent convert. I did a musical number in his ward on Sunday and he just watched the whole time. I can't wait for you all to meet him! Also at the Visitor Center one of my recent converts from a previous area came in and I got to talk with him for a bit. He's doing great!! I've reflected alot recently on the amazing people that have come into my life since I have been a missionary and how much they all mean to me. And the beautiful thing about the Gospel is that these relationships are forever! I love being a missionary!
One of our investigators is Joseph. He is incredible! He had his last cigarette on monday and has been clean since. We have a stop smoking program that we have used that really works and he's been sticking to it. He soon will be baptized!!! I love him. I've been working with him since I first came to the area over 5 months ago and he has been doing great!
So it's kinda a short email but I've got to go! Know that I love you all...more to come later!!!
